Autoimmune conditions occur when the body attacks itself. This panel includes blood markers that light up in the following autoimmune conditions (symptoms in brackets):

  • Sjogren’s Syndrome (dry eyes)
  • Scleroderma / Systemic Sclerosis (skin thickening)
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (facial rash, swelling, joint problems, fatigue)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (join swelling and stiffness, especially in the mornings)
  • Vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation affecting kidneys, lungs, nerves)
  • Autoimmune markers Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA)
  • Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA)

The Autoimmune and Inflammation Panel also includes two key markers of acute or chronic inflammation:

  • Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
  • C-reactive protein (CRP)

    15% of patients with breast implants have abnormal thyroid function. The thyroid gland can be underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism). The thyroid is a key organ for healthy metabolism, and therefore abnormal thyroid function effects energy levels, weight, sleep, temperature and concentration. The Thyroid Function test includes: Thyroxine (free T4) Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) Given the overlap between the symptoms of thyroid problems and Breast Implant Illness, it is useful to test thyroid function. We can then direct you to the correct treatment pathway and referral to an endocrinologist if required.

  • Menopause Status Blood Test

    Menopause Status

    Menopause typically happens at 45-50 years of age. However, about 1 in 10 women experience ‘pre-menopause’, an earlier hormone change from 40 years of age. Symptoms include fatigue, anxiety, hot flushes, sleeping issues, irregular periods, night sweats and mood changes. It is possible to experience Breast Implant Illness and menopause simultaneously, and many symptoms overlap. This Menopause Status test measures the female hormones: Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) Luteinising hormone (LH) Oestrogen (OES) This will give an indication of your ovarian function and identify whether you might be entering menopause and therefore benefit from a discussion about alternative treatments before deciding what to do with your implants. If you are still having periods, please take the test on day 3 of your cycle.

    Full Body Health Screen

    If you have any concerns about your health or are feeling unwell, our Full Body Health Screen identifies multiple medical conditions and provides a comprehensive ‘snap shot’ of your current health. Components of this 28-biomarker panel include: Liver function testing (LFTs, eight tests) Urea and electrolytes (U+Es, five tests) Kidney function (important for waste removal and blood filtration) Haemoglobin (Hb, a marker of anaemia) Sodium and potassium (Na+ and K+, metal ions) Urea and creatine (metabolised waste products) White cell count (infection marker; acute or chronic) Many patients choose to repeat the Full Body Health Screen at multiple timepoints to view their progress.
